about

The first proper band I formed was made up of visionaries. I was so lucky to find a bunch of hard-nosed dreamers who had the ability to endure the crappy songs I was writing and the constantly faltering voice I attempted to sing them with. So many long nights driving to Redbank Plains, Fernvale, Taringa and Chapel Hill to play parties with borrowed amps and parents asking "how low could you play"?
To Cathy, Glenn, Christian and Paul I ask your forgiveness. Please allow me to explain away my behaviour as radical hyper-ambition. I always thought I was right but I know now, I was wrong. None of this excuses the poor songwriting, but you all did the best you could do with an average situation. I wish I could travel back to the late 1980's and hug you.
Your friend from the future.
- Dave.

'You Really Got Me' was recorded circa 1986 in Dave's bedroom at Tarbet St, Kenmore using Christian Dahl's Yamaha 4track cassette recorder. "It must have been winter because I remember it being very chilly. The guitars and keyboards and bass were all run through my crappy Princeton amp (because it had 4 inputs so it acted as a pseudo mixer). I recall the bedroom was a new addition so we were all standing on a concrete slab, very chilly. Soon after my parents managed to purchase some sea-grass matting as flooring." - Dave.
