about

HUGbubble started up sometime in 1991. A typical badly-photocopied band ad in a record store brought the 4 members together, all sharing a love of enough similar "alternative" music to decide to have a crack at making some themselves. The chosen direction was intended to be a bit of a relief from the then ever-present "grunge" - more poppy and not taking itself so seriously.

The band soon found themselves enjoying the company of other Brisbane pop-culture-vulture outfits like Clag and The Melniks, and even though all musically different, were regularly considered together under the "Fizzpop" banner.

HUGbubble released the e.p. Melodophobia in 1992. This was generally received well, resulted in a fair bit of airplay locally and nationally, and resulted in some fun shows and tours that year. In 1993 the band then started to experiment a bit more with things like samplers, leading to the self-described "very patchy" Braniac e.p., released that year, and they broke up soon after.
